Curator and art critic. She curated the Uruguay Pavilion for the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia 2024 with the project Latent, by the artist Eduardo Cardozo, in collaboration with Álvaro Zinno.
Holds a master’s degree in Advanced Studies in Art History from Universitat de Barcelona (Spain), with a master's thesis focusing on the connection between mediation and curatorial practices. She completed her master's internship at the Coordination of Educational Projects at the Fundació Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, Spain). Additionally, she has a Bachelor of Arts in Literature graduated from Universidad de la República (Uruguay), and obtained a Diploma in Editing from Universidad CLAEH (Uruguay).
She works in visual arts, occupying different roles and organizations. She has collaborated with different national institutions, including the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Atchugarry (MACA), the Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo (EAC), the Museo José Gurvich, the Xippas gallery, and the Diana Saravia Gallery, among others.
She writes about visual arts for ArtNexus (Colombia-United States) and la diaria (Uruguay). She has taught courses on curatorial practices, mediation, and the art world in Uruguay. She also advises artists and curators on the development and professionalization of their career.
In 2023, she served as Assistant Curator on the exhibition Abstracción en movimiento: Arte contemporáneo uruguayo [Abstraction in Motion: Contemporary Uruguayan Art], curated by Martín Craciun, held at MACA (Maldonado, Uruguay). In that same year, she joined Diana Saravia Gallery as gallery assistant and producer of their participation in the MAPA art fair (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
Since 2020, she has been the coordinator of the International Art Fair and Cultural Summit ESTE ARTE (Punta del Este, Uruguay). During the pandemic, as part of this organization, she developed, produced, and hosted ESTE PODCAST (2020), where she interviewed gallery owners, art collectors, and personalities from the art world of the Americas. In addition, together with Laura Bardier –ESTE ARTE’s director and founder–, Valerio co-curated ESTE JOURNAL (2021), an editorial section on the fair’s online edition. In 2023, she moderated the conversation ESTE FOCUS: Pati Fernández y Juanito Conte, which sought to delve into the body of work of these two Uruguayan artists as part of the event’s Cultural Program. In this Cultural Program, in 2024, she presented the project Latent, with Eduardo Cardozo, Álvaro Zinno, and María Frick, to represent the Uruguayan Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia 2024.
She combines her activity in visual arts with her work in the publishing field. Since 2014 she has coordinated, written, edited, and proofread multiple publications on visual arts, as well as other disciplines.
